You walk. You see beautiful scenery. You pass delightful people. You stop for some tea, or an ice cream. You shop. Anywhere in the world, that's a boulevard. We've got them too, here in Ulster County, each with its own distinctive character.
Uptown Kingston. Animated map & illustrated tour. A homely gem of city architecture. Center your visit on Wall street, but explore the entire stockade area, then extend your walking tour down Fair Street.
The Rondout, Kingston. Animated map & illustrated tour. A makeshift blend of old and new, that's settling down nicely to become a soothing river-scene. Museums. Interesting shopping, restaurants.
Woodstock. Not a long walk, if you don't like to shop. Not great architecture. But certainly a small town with a big-city feel.
New Paltz. Animated map & illustrated tour. If you're selective and make Huguenot Street the centerpiece of your tour, New Paltz can provide you with a fascinating tour. Good bookshops, too.
Saugerties. You like antiques? You do like antiques, don't you? Then shop Saugerties. Built largely of ruddy brick, and notably once prosperous, Saugerties is trying to regain its former glory.
High Falls. Animated map & illustrated tour. Tiny, but festive, largely centered on its four fine restraurants. Jammed all week with the late-night crowd.
Rosendale. Animated map & illustrated tour. A century ago said to have had 35 bars cramming its main street. Some of that honky-tonk hard-bitten canal life still remains. Have tea at the Cafe.
Phoenicia. A zesty mountain town, boistrously celebrating the summer with tubing on the river, and the winter as a ski center.
