Rosen| STREET LIFE| dale
JUST THIS SIDE OF RETRO

Sapphire
This shop glistens and dazzles. Handmade gifts from American craftspeople with a focus on local, Hudson Valley artists.

Blue Wolff
Blue Wolff specializes in dessert and coffee--what you need when you've had everything else. There's serious baking here. High style decor.

Outdoor Decor
This store wraps the decor around gardening. And the home. A distinctive eye is at work. An outdoor display is in the works.

Big Cheese
(Almost) nothing but cheese, from all over. This is the goods, with great selection and ever-changing variety. But still just hovering on the edge of retro. Great.

Mid-Century Modern
This is the furniture that took "circle, square and triangle" seriously. Entering this store is a bit like becoming a pixel in a computer graphic drawing program.

Rural Delivery
The antiques here share their spirit with the interior of the building, once a mainstay of roustabout canal life.

Rosendale Wares
Savor the texture of country living in this sampling of what's been in people's homes in times past.

Cakewalk
He looks a bit miffed. Even a cat has trouble competing with the wares here. This is the kind of store you go to when you've run out of things to want but you haven't finished shopping. Something will catch your eye.

Alamo
An offshoot of Cement Factory, this Mexican restaurant is clearly out to make a stand. Rosendale now has a respectable and varied selection of eating establishments

Cement Factory
This is where Rosendale eaters do their heavy lifting. Excellent dining, a variety of environments to eat in including a delightful garden, a well-stocked bar, and a not-too-serious attitude,

Penny's, Bill Brooks', barbershop.
Nothing here of interest to visitors. This is a country-style barbershop, mainly where town people exchange local gossip and news. It's included here because as you pass by you may wonder what goes on inside.

Rosendale Theater
In what used to be a casino, its roof held up by a dubious-looking hawser, Rosendale gets a mix of first run and classic movies. And at country prices--$5.

Charmed Places
A business like this on Main Street gives the game away--Rosendale lies in the center of wedding-location territory. The sign says, in full, "Wedding Planning--Unique Wedding Locations."

n--no space gallery
This deep store-front property houses working studios. But the front is to be used as a gallery for local artists. Also of note--the entire surface of the gallery space is "tinned"--this used to be a post-office. Well worth a look.
