Rosendale

Pretty much closed Mondays, Tuesdays. But open all weekend.
Once a gritty canal town, Rosendale is now better known regionally for its
festivals: a music festival, and--would you believe it--a pickle festival. On a warm day, we recommend the couple-of-miles stroll indicated on the map at the top of this page, followed by a visit to the Rosendale Cafe and a little shopping. (Updated July 2005)

NEARBY LODGINGS

Shops, restaurants, galleries
Rosendale seems to be entering a post-retro phase. At the launderette you can play arcade monopoly or wireless-surf the Internet.  We're all waiting to see how this turns out. Here's a report straight from the street.

Rosendale's je ne sais pas quoi
Rosendale was created to house the cement industry. In turn it then became shaped by canals, corporate secrecy, and mushrooms. Currently it is being shaped by je ne sais pas quoi. In a photo-essay, we try to define this further.

A painter's vision
Back when the web was young, Staats Fasoldt and Walter Earl posted a "spirit of Rosendale" map and guide. A bit out of date now, it's still a lot of fun, and tells you about Rosendale from the inside, what it's like to live there.

Rosendale picture quiz
Everything in our quiz is on or just off the main street in Rosendale. See if you can recognize the pictures. Some we've changed a little, to make the quest a little harder. A good way to really, really see Rosendale.
